Lively II's Injury Dampens Mavs' Win
Dallas Mavericks rookie center Dereck Lively II was ruled out of Sunday's 116-107 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves after suffering a neck sprain in the third quarter. Lively II had been playing well before the injury, hitting all three of his shots from the field and grabbing four rebounds in 12 minutes of action.
Missed Return
Lively II's injury put a damper on a night in which the Mavericks snapped a three-game losing streak. The 19-year-old center had been a bright spot for Dallas this season, averaging 9.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting 55.5% from the field.
Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said after the game that Lively II is day-to-day with the neck sprain. The injury is not considered serious, but it could keep Lively II out of action for the rest of the regular season.
The Mavericks have five games remaining in the regular season, including a matchup against the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night.
